ANTHROPIC LOCKS IN $19 BILLION POWER DEAL — SIGNS 20-YEAR LEASE WITH TERAWULF FOR A 400 MEGAWATT KENTUCKY DATA CENTER Anthropic just made its biggest infrastructure bet yet. The company signed a 20-year lease with TeraWulf, a former cryptocurrency mining company that pivoted to AI data center infrastructure, to occupy a facility in Hawesville, Kentucky, about an hour southwest of Louisville. The data center will carry roughly 400 megawatts of capacity, with first power delivery expected in the second half of 2027. Over the life of the lease, the deal is expected to generate approximately 19 billion dollars in revenue for TeraWulf. The announcement sent TeraWulf shares up more than 16 percent in premarket trading. The company is now moving to raise roughly 3.5 billion dollars in debt financing, with Morgan Stanley expected to lead the effort, to build out the campus itself. This deal sits on top of an already enormous infrastructure push. Anthropic had previously committed to more than 12 data center leases across the United States totaling over a gigawatt of capacity. The company also inked a deal earlier this year to pay xAI 1.25 billion dollars a month for compute while its own facilities come online. The Kentucky facility is a direct signal that Anthropic is no longer playing catch-up on infrastructure. It is building for the next several years of AI demand, and the 19-billion-dollar commitment tells you something important about where the company thinks the market is heading.
