ANTHROPIC AND BLACKSTONE ARE BETTING THERE IS A TRILLION DOLLARS IN JUST HELPING COMPANIES FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE AI The conversation inside the AI industry has been shifting for months. Building the best model is no longer enough. Most companies that have tried to deploy AI in their own operations have found that the hard part is not the technology. It is knowing what to do with it. Anthropic and Blackstone have placed a $1.5 billion bet that solving that problem is the next major business opportunity in artificial intelligence. The venture is called Ode with Anthropic, and it launched in May alongside Goldman Sachs and Hellman and Friedman. The company currently employs 100 engineers who embed directly inside client organizations, similar to how a consulting firm operates, but instead of delivering a slide deck, they build functioning AI systems tailored to each client’s actual operations. The target customer is not a startup with a technical team already in place. Ode is focused on community banks, regional health systems, and mid-sized manufacturers that want to adopt AI but do not have the engineers to do it on their own. The CEO, Chris Taylor, has said the company could become a trillion-dollar business if it executes. That kind of language used to be reserved for foundation model labs. The fact that it is now being used for an implementation business is a significant signal about where the real value in AI is starting to land.
