MICROSOFT FIRES BACK — THREE NEW IN-HOUSE AI MODELS CHALLENGE OPENAI AND GOOGLE
Microsoft, which has spent billions cozying up to OpenAI, just quietly built its own AI labs and launched three in-house models — MAI-Transcribe-1, MAI-Voice-1, and MAI-Image-2 — covering speech, voice, and images in a single competitive salvo. Nothing says “we’re not totally dependent on you” like releasing your own AI models while the ink on your partnership contract is still wet. The software giant’s new “superintelligence team” is apparently gunning for OpenAI and Google simultaneously, which is extremely on-brand for a company that invented awkward tech relationships.
