TRUMP TEAM THAT KILLED BIDEN’S AI SAFETY LAB NOW WANTS THE EXACT SAME THING
The Trump administration came into Washington promising to burn down Biden’s AI bureaucracy. It did. The U.S. AI Safety Institute was stripped of its name, its director shown the door, and the whole operation rebranded into something called CAISI. David Sacks made it his personal mission to gut every regulatory guardrail the previous administration had constructed.
That was then.
Now, spooked by Anthropic’s Mythos AI model and its demonstrated ability to find and exploit cybersecurity vulnerabilities faster than anyone can patch them, the White House has quietly reversed course. The administration is reportedly drafting an executive order that would create a government-industry working group to evaluate frontier AI models before they go public. Sound familiar? It should. That is almost word-for-word the Biden policy Trump’s team spent months dismantling.
CAISI has already signed pre-deployment testing agreements with Google, Microsoft, and xAI. They have completed more than 40 such evaluations. White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett put it plainly on Fox Business: the goal is to ensure AI is released to the wild after being proven safe, just like an FDA drug.
The men who called that idea tyranny are now writing the rules. Washington never changes. It just rotates.
