OPENAI IS THREATENING TO SUE APPLE OVER THE CHATGPT DEAL THAT BOTH SIDES NOW SAY IS BROKEN

OPENAI IS THREATENING TO SUE APPLE OVER THE CHATGPT DEAL THAT BOTH SIDES NOW SAY IS BROKEN The partnership that was supposed to define the future of AI on the iPhone is falling apart, and OpenAI is now reportedly exploring legal action against Apple over what it sees as a broken contract. When the two companies struck their deal in 2024, OpenAI expected the ChatGPT integration into Siri and Apples operating systems to generate billions of dollars in subscription revenue annually. That has not come close to happening, according to reporting from Bloomberg and TechCrunch. OpenAI believes Apple failed to advertise the integration adequately, did not give ChatGPT prominent enough placement within Siri, and did not expand the partnership into the additional apps and features both sides had discussed. OpenAI has retained an outside law firm to assess its legal options. A formal breach-of-contract notice appears to be the most likely near-term step rather than an immediate lawsuit, but the relationship has deteriorated to the point where a full courtroom confrontation is reportedly on the table. This dispute lands against a backdrop where Apple is simultaneously facing pressure from Google, Meta, and Anthropic, all of which are trying to replace or supplement ChatGPT within iOS. Apple recently said it would allow users to set third-party AI assistants as defaults in iOS 27. Meanwhile, OpenAI has started building its own hardware and brought on former Apple design chief Jony Ive to lead the effort. The most important AI partnership of 2024 may become the most expensive AI lawsuit of 2026. Keywords: OpenAI Apple lawsuit, ChatGPT Siri partnership, AI legal dispute, OpenAI Apple deal
