GOOGLE GEMINI SPARK IS LIVE — THE AI THAT RUNS IN THE BACKGROUND AND ACTS WITHOUT BEING ASKED

 ·
GOOGLE GEMINI SPARK IS LIVE — THE AI THAT RUNS IN THE BACKGROUND AND ACTS WITHOUT BEING ASKED Google made Gemini Spark available to US-based AI Ultra subscribers on May 29, and what it is doing is bigger than most product launches get credit for. Spark is not a chatbot. It is a background AI agent that monitors your connected apps throughout the day, surfaces relevant actions on its own initiative, and executes tasks without being prompted. It is Google’s answer to the question of what AI looks like when it moves from reactive to proactive. The product was announced at Google I/O 2026 and built on the architecture that drives Google’s broader Gemini family. Spark connects to Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Maps, and third-party apps through integrations, giving it visibility across the daily workflow of the person using it. It can draft and send messages, schedule meetings, book reservations, pull together research, and generate summaries without a user ever opening a conversation window. That last part is the shift worth watching. Most AI tools still require a prompt. Spark is designed to act first and report back. Google is essentially building an AI that shows up on its own, decides what needs doing, and does it. The privacy implications are enormous. So is the competitive threat to every productivity tool that still relies on a human deciding when to use it. Spark starts with Ultra subscribers and Google has not announced broader rollout timing.
