ANTHROPIC CLOSING IN ON $900 BILLION VALUATION IN WHAT COULD BE THE LARGEST PRIVATE FUNDRAISE IN HISTORY
Anthropic is in advanced talks to close a funding round of at least $30 billion, with some reports putting the total closer to $50 billion, at a valuation north of $900 billion. Bloomberg first reported the discussions in mid-May, and sources indicate the round could close before the end of this month.
If that valuation holds, Anthropic would surpass OpenAI, which closed a $122 billion round earlier this year at an $852 billion post-money valuation, making it the most valuable AI company in the world and one of the most valuable private companies in history.
Sequoia, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Altimeter are among the investors reportedly co-leading the round. The appetite from institutional investors is a direct reflection of Anthropics revenue trajectory. The companys annualized run rate reached approximately $9 billion at the end of 2025 and climbed to $30 billion by March 2026. Revenue tripled in roughly three months.
The company also reported its first quarterly operating profit, an unusual accomplishment for an AI lab burning hundreds of millions on compute every month. Claudes enterprise adoption, combined with the ramp-up of Claude for government and developer tools, appears to be what is pushing the margin into the black. At this pace, an Anthropic IPO is no longer a distant possibility. It is a near-term inevitability.
