ANTHROPIC FILES FOR IPO AT NEAR-TRILLION DOLLAR VALUATION — REVENUE EXPLODED 80X IN A YEAR AND IT IS ALMOST PROFITABLE Anthropic became the first of the big AI labs to file confidentially with the SEC, submitting its draft S-1 on June 1st. The company closed its most recent funding round at a $965 billion valuation — just a hair under a trillion — after a $65 billion raise in late May. That makes Anthropic the fastest company in history to approach a trillion-dollar valuation from scratch. The growth story behind the filing is almost hard to believe. Revenue hit an annualized run rate of $47 billion by late May, up from roughly $9 billion at the end of 2025. That is an 80x increase in revenue in a single year. The engine behind the explosion is Claude Code, the AI coding assistant that became the fastest-growing software product Anthropic has ever shipped. More than 1,000 business customers are each spending over a million dollars annually, double the number from just two months earlier. Dario Amodei has said the company is close to its first quarterly profit, which would put Anthropic in a fundamentally different financial position than OpenAI, which continues to burn money at a staggering rate. The race to Wall Street between the two companies is now a direct contest, and whoever prices first will set the comp for the other.
