ANTHROPIC SHIPS CLAUDE OPUS 4.8 WITH DYNAMIC WORKFLOWS AND A SPEED MODE 3X CHEAPER THAN BEFORE Anthropic dropped Claude Opus 4.8 on May 28, just 41 days after the 4.7 release, and the pace of improvement is starting to feel like a sprint with no finish line in sight. The new model scores 69.2 percent on agentic coding benchmarks, up from 64.3 percent, and brings a new dynamic workflows feature inside Claude Code that lets the model attack massive engineering problems end to end without human checkpoints. But the headline numbers only tell part of the story. Opus 4.8 is four times less likely than its predecessor to let flawed code slip through unchallenged, meaning it now argues back when it disagrees with its own output. That is not a minor update. That is the model getting more like a competent colleague and less like an eager assistant that says yes to everything. The fast mode is the other news. It runs at 2.5 times the speed and is now three times cheaper than fast mode on earlier Opus models, which makes it usable for high-volume production workflows that previously would have broken budgets. Pricing stays the same at $15 per million input tokens. Anthropic is releasing more capable models faster at the same price or lower. The market is paying attention.
