GOOGLE IO 2026 OPENS TUESDAY AND IT COULD CHANGE EVERYTHING — GEMINI 4.0, ANDROID XR GLASSES AND ANDROID 17 ALL EXPECTED All eyes turn to Mountain View. Google I/O 2026 kicks off Tuesday, May 19, and the company has more riding on this keynote than any in recent memory. After a year of playing catch-up in the AI race, Google is expected to show the world what Gemini is truly capable of. The headliner everybody expects is Gemini 4.0. Leaked benchmarks and internal communications point to a major capability upgrade over the 3.x series that has carried Google through 2026’s first quarter. If the numbers hold up in public testing, it would put Google directly in competition with Claude at the very top of the rankings. Hardware is the wild card. Google has confirmed it will preview Android XR glasses at the event, its most ambitious wearable push in a decade. The new glasses are lightweight, display-equipped, and powered by the Gemini assistant. Android 17, expected to debut here as well, will bring floating windows and deep Gemini integration into the core phone experience. Google also previewed Googlebooks this week, a new line of AI-first laptops launching this fall. Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo are all signed on as manufacturing partners. Every signal suggests a Google that has finished playing defense and is ready to remind the world that search and infrastructure advantages still count for something. Keywords: Google IO 2026, Gemini 4.0, Android XR glasses, Android 17
