META STARTS CHARGING FOR INSTAGRAM FACEBOOK AND WHATSAPP WORLDWIDE — AI PLANS UP TO 20 DOLLARS A MONTH ARE NEXT
Meta made the subscription era of social media official this week, rolling out paid plans for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp globally. Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus run $3.99 a month. WhatsApp Plus is $2.99. These plans unlock features like extended story analytics, custom profile options, unlimited audience lists, and animated reactions. They do not replace existing Meta Verified badge plans. The more consequential announcements came alongside. Under a new umbrella brand called Meta One, the company will begin testing two AI-focused tiers next month. Meta One Plus costs $7.99 per month. Meta One Premium runs $19.99 and unlocks heavier compute for complex tasks, meaning deeper reasoning modes and more video and image generation capacity across Meta apps. For creators and businesses, Meta is also testing professional plans ranging from $14.99 to $49.99 monthly, with the most expensive tier granting boosts in search ranking, auto-follow invitations, and competitive audience analytics. The AI tiers will start in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia before expanding. This is Meta’s most significant business model shift since it introduced advertising to the social media experience. The company is building a subscription ladder on top of three apps used by more than three billion people. If even a fraction of that audience converts, the revenue implications are enormous.
