MICROSOFT TRAINS SALESPEOPLE TO TRASH OPENAI AND ANTHROPIC WHILE QUIETLY BOOTING THEM FROM EXCEL AND OUTLOOK

MICROSOFT TRAINS SALESPEOPLE TO TRASH OPENAI AND ANTHROPIC WHILE QUIETLY BOOTING THEM FROM EXCEL AND OUTLOOK Microsoft spent hundreds of billions aligning itself with OpenAI, and now it is paying its salespeople to badmouth the company. At an internal strategy session this week, Microsoft executives walked salespeople through talking points designed to position OpenAI and Anthropic as inferior to Microsoft’s own AI offerings. Executive Vice President Jay Parikh reportedly told the room that everyone else is selling parts while Microsoft sells the full end-to-end system. Copilot executive Jacob Andreou told the same audience that Anthropic’s Claude is “slower and less accurate” and lacks proper security integrations. This follows a Bloomberg report from earlier this month revealing that Microsoft has already started swapping OpenAI and Anthropic models out of flagship products like Excel and Outlook, replacing them with internally built MAI models to cut costs. Tens of thousands of AI prompts in those applications are now completed each week by Microsoft’s own models rather than the ones it licensed from its partners. The strategic logic is not complicated. Microsoft’s massive infrastructure investment in AI gives it every reason to commoditize the model layer as fast as possible. OpenAI and Anthropic depend on Microsoft’s cloud and capital. Microsoft depends on its own products being the gateway to AI for enterprise customers. Those interests are now in direct conflict, and Microsoft is starting to show its hand. This will not end cleanly for anyone involved. Keywords: Microsoft AI strategy, Microsoft vs OpenAI, MAI models, Microsoft Copilot 2026
