OPENAI LAUNCHES A 4 BILLION DOLLAR CONSULTING ARMY TO TAKE BACK THE ENTERPRISE MARKET OpenAI is not going to sit and watch Anthropic’s consulting partners eat its lunch. On May 11, the company launched the OpenAI Deployment Company, an entity already backed by more than four billion dollars from a consortium that includes Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, Bain Capital, TPG, and Capgemini. The structure is a majority-owned subsidiary, and the money comes from investors who have a direct financial stake in making sure DeployCo actually lands enterprise clients. The operating model is lifted straight from Palantir. Instead of selling software licenses and handing integration work to a client’s IT team, OpenAI will station its own engineers inside customer organizations. They find the problems, build the workflows, and plug OpenAI models directly into production systems. The company acquired a consulting firm called Tomoro on the same day, bringing in 150 engineers who already do exactly this kind of embedded deployment work. The context behind the move matters. OpenAI’s share of the enterprise API market reportedly fell from roughly half the market in 2023 to around one quarter by mid-2025. Anthropic and Google took that ground while OpenAI focused on the consumer ChatGPT product. DeployCo is the counterattack, and at four billion dollars, it is not a half-measure.
