Reflection AI signed a deal with SpaceX in June that has it paying $150 million a month for access to Nvidia GB300 chips housed at the Colossus 2 data center near Memphis, Tennessee. The contract runs through 2029, and if both sides stay the course, the total bill comes to $6.3 billion. That number makes it one of the largest compute agreements in AI history, though it still sits below the deals Anthropic and Google struck with the same facility. Reflection was founded in 2024 by two former Google DeepMind researchers. The company positions itself as an open-source AI lab with ties to the Department of Energy’s Genesis Mission and Pentagon AI programs. Nvidia is reportedly invested on both sides of this trade, having backed Reflection and supplied the hardware SpaceX is leasing out. The deal says a few things at once. It confirms that SpaceX has successfully turned Colossus from a one-client facility into a commercial compute platform competing for the biggest AI customers. It confirms that serious money is now flowing into open-source AI at a scale that was unimaginable two years ago. And it confirms that the race for raw compute is nowhere near over. The contract includes a 90-day out clause after the first three months.
